Small Town Philippines

Dauin's Church
Even though the people were friendly, we weren't taken with Manila or enchanted with Cebu, but small town Philippines has turned out to be our thing.  We spent a few days in Dumaguette on the island of Negros and then took a tricycle taxi to an even smaller community called Dauin.  The intent is to go out to the island of Apo which we look out to each day here as we all try to recover from a mild to moderate flu/cold.   Apo has become a well known reef exploring spot and we are hoping to join the divers and snorkelers that head over there every day.

Besides illness, the weather hasn't been in our favour for boat trips.  We were very lucky to have booked into a hotel on the beach, Gracey's Dive Resort, that has been converted from a house to a small hotel.  For us it's been more like a convalescent home where everyone has been so accommodating.

We've also had time to poke around the small town, try more Filipino food, talk with locals and learn a lot about the country  and the area.  John and Rob went to the cockfight stadium yesterday.  Every person that passes, young or old, walking or on motorbike, says a big  "Good morning" and many stop to chat.  This is what we always love to find.

Always fun to find more kids to play with
